Carrauntoohil

Carrauntoohil is Ireland’s highest mountain at a height of 1039m. It’s a challenging climb with breathtaking views.

Tomies Wood

The Tomies Wood Loop Walk is an easy to moderate, family friendly 1.5 to 3 hour (6km) marked loop trail through these beautiful ancient woodlands on the slopes of Tomies Mountain (735m) and on the shore of Lough Leane, the largest of the Killarney Lakes.

Gap of Dunloe

The Gap of Dunloe is a narrow mountain pass running north-south in County Kerry that separates the MacGillycuddy's Reeks mountain range in the west, from the Purple Mountain Group range in the east. It is one of Kerry's most popular tourist destinations on account of its scenery.

Torc Mountain

Torc Mountain is an extremely popular and scenic moderate 2-2.5 hour (7.5 km) walking route to the summit of Torc Mountain (535m) with spectacular 360 degree views of Killarney town and lakes, Muckross House, the Killarney National Park and the McGillicuddy's Reeks.

The Lake Walk

Simply step outside the door and follow the road to the lakes.

Strikeen

Strikeen mountain is one of the more accessible mountains of the McGillycuddy Reeks. Rising just over 300m from the glacial valley floor of the Gap of Dunloe, it is an ideal introduction to the Reeks for the young or uninitiated. 

Bridia Valley

The Bridia Valley is a stunning and peaceful valley on the famous Kerry Way walking trail which enters the valley via the ancient Lack Road and Bridia Pass used for over 5000 years.

Purple

Purple Mountain, located to the west of the lovely Killarney Lakes, is the highest peak in the Killarney National Park. We are a 10 minute drive from the starting point in the Gap of Dunloe.

The Old Kenmare Road

The Old Kenmare Road is a scenic trail that meanders through the uplands of Killarney National Park and forms part of the Kerry Way long distance trail. A 10 minute drive from the house will bring you to Lord Brandon's Cottage (where refreshments are available during the summer months). Here you can start your walk up through the Old Kenmare Road and onto Derrycunnihy Church.

Killarney National Park and Lakes

Make your way to the internationally renowned Killarney National Park. Come here for the scenic beauty with 10,000 hectares of stunning lakes, mountains and woods.

The Kerry Way

At over 200km, the Kerry Way is one of Ireland's longest signposted walking trail and also one of the most popular. The trail starts and finishes in the busy tourist destination of Killarney. Looping around the Iveragh Peninsula, the Kerry Way goes anti-clockwise, passing through some of the most isolated and dramatic countryside in the country.


There are many other attractions within driving distance from the house. Some include:

- Muckross House and Abbey
- Torc Waterfall
- Ladies View

A little further with the car will take you on some beautiful driving routes. The Wild Atlantic Way, the Beara Peninsula, the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula are some of our favourites.
